Site of the Month: UnitedHealth Group State Health Rankings

If you've got your health, you've got everything, or so the saying goes. To find out how your state residents' health compares to others, turn to this month's site of the month, the UnitedHealth Group's annual State Health Rankings. The rankings are based on a compilation of statistics on lifestyle, access to health care, morbidity and mortality. In addition to profiles of individual states, the site contains historical data through the 1990s, showing how each state's ranking has changed.

Tracking the Economy: State Budget Outlooks

With the national economy losing headway in the past few months, people have been asking for more information about the future outlook for state and regional economies. One of the places this information shows up earliest is state budgets: sales and income taxes drop if the economy weakens, and state expenditures rise if unemployment surges. To get the most up-to-date view of the economy from the
perspective of state budget planners, turn to the National Association of State Budget Officers' website. In addition to copious statistics for comparing state budgets, you'll find their semi-annual fiscal survey that contains the most up-to-date information on the budget and economic outlook from the state level.

New and Improved. BLS Economy at a Glance

On the web, as in the business world, you can't stand still and remain among the best. One of our perennial favorites, the BLS Economy at a Glance page (Site of the Month for December 2000), has added some new data. While it always had a good selection of data for states and larger metro areas, the site now takes you to data for smaller metro areas as well. If you haven't visited this site in a while, try clicking on their US map at:
